Will Of The People

So Oregon’s prospective gun owners are going to get it in the shorts:

Gun sales more than doubled in Oregon with Ballot Measure 114 (BM 114) pending, and Oregon State Police are struggling to keep up with the demand for background checks.

KDRV reports that BM 114 passed by a margin of 50.9 percent to 49.1 percent, and will take effect December 8, 2022.  The measure requires a permit, which costs $65, to purchase a gun. It also bans “high capacity” magazines and requires law enforcement to maintain a database of gun permit applicants, among other things.  The process for getting a gun permit under BM 114 includes submitting fingerprints and passing a gun safety course.

And for all those Oregon gun owners who couldn’t be bothered to go out and vote on Nov 8:  you have only yourselves to blame.

Ahhh that democracy thing… although I bet that if this “initiative” ever makes it to the Supreme Court, it will get revoked.  Keyword:  “if”.

  1. “…50.9 percent…”. Kalifornia expats following in Kaliforna’s footsteps. I was an FFL in Kalifornia for almost 20 years, watched it all turn to crap. Wife and I escaped to Texas in 2015. Traded my CCW for a CHL.

  2. And for all those Oregon gun owners who couldn’t be bothered to go out and vote on Nov 8: you have only yourselves to blame.

Well, to be honest, we all voted in 2020 and again in 2022, didn’t really make a difference, did it? You can’t out vote the cheat. With the vote at 50.9% vs 49.1%, looks like they cheated just barely enough to win. Like old Joe Kennedy said, I ain’t paying for a landslide.

  3. 1. the valley in Oregon controls the vote, anything/one East of it votes conservative.
    2. Californicators have voted in Oregon for the past 25 years that I know of; you can’t beleive the number of CA license plates in Portland beginning about 2-3 days prior ro Election Day.
    3. Mail-in ballots=guaranteed fraud
    4. All of the “undocumented aliens,” the million+ non-citizens from Mexico, vote precisely as La Raza (or whatever it’s called these days) tells them to

  4. As Joseph Stalin noted, “It doesn’t matter how the people vote. It only matters who counts the votes.” With the Dominion vote machines, mail-in ballots, ballot harvesting, and voter fraud. as @Don noted, you cannot outvote the cheat when it alters your vote, and to say that this reflects the “voters will” is false. Also, with the Soros DAs & Judges, attempts at prosecuting cheating will not even make it into the legal system. [it’s not a judicial system anymore as it no longer provides justice].

Insanity is doing the same thing over & over, expecting a different result and voooote haaaarder only provides more cheat votes.

  5. You don’t have to cheat a lot; you just have to cheat enough.

My advice to Oregonians it simple and two parts: First, ignore the new law as best you can, as there are so many parts of it that will be in court beginning December 8th, and it will eventually fall under the weight of its own stupidity. Behave yourselves, don’t brag or complain or draw attention to yourselves. You need patience to outlast this farce. Donate to organizations that will fight the battle for you in court.

Second: MOVE! Why the hell are you staying where there is no chance of rescuing Oregon from itself in the next generation or two? If BM 114 angers you, you need to be elsewhere!

  6. Measure 114 is worse than it is being portrayed in the news.

    1. >10 round magazines can no longer be made, sold, transferred or POSSESSED. Any magazine modified to accept only 10 rounds must be modified in a manner that is irreversible.

    2. Those who had such magazines prior to the new law may keep them but can only use them in limited circumstances and, when transporting, magazines must be in a locked container separate from the firearm. Those with concealed carry permits and retired/off-duty law enforcement are not exempt.

    3. If you are found with illegal magazines, the burden of proof is on YOU to provide evidence that you legally owned them prior to the law. Who saves receipts for mags purchased 20 years ago?

    4. The new licensing scheme mandates Law Enforcement approved training of which a portion must be demonstrated proficiency including firing the weapon. Those who don’t already have a gun may have a hard time with that last part. Anyone living in a rural area will have a hard time finding approved training nearby. Oregon has a LOT of rural areas and most everyone in those areas has or wants a(nother)gun.

    5. So far, there are no training programs in place and when the new law hits the books in a couple of weeks all legal firearm transfers in Oregon will come to a screeching halt. My guess is that there will be a temporary injunction of the new law until training is available.

    6. The new purchase permit, in addition to creating a publicly searchable database, still requires a background check and form 4473 when actually going to purchase a gun. The permit is good for 5 years.

    7. The new law will eventually be invalidated, but that could take years.

As mentioned by others here, those voting for the law live mainly in the Eugene and Portland areas. That represents about 5% of the State, geographically.
Anyone who actually submits to the new training and licensing is an idiot.

  7. Similar laws in Taxachusetts, Conn, NY, etc. still on the books so I wouldn’y hold my breath for a Supreme decision just yet.

And, yes, the keep counting until the Democrat wins rules and practices need to change.

  8. my biggest fear is that the anti-USA forces (I don’t know what to call them) will find a way to induce towards the left and/or kill at least on (or more) votes on SCOTUS that, at least, lean somewhat towards the idea of following the US Constitution as written (without finding all sorts of clouds and penumbras) to allow the person sitting in the White House to appoint a judge further to the left of Ketanji Brown Jackson

  9. The EPA did this years ago with onerous and illegal over regulations. I wish that I saved the article but one of the EPA flunkies admitted that they knew that they would eventually lose in court but until then, the restrictive laws remained in place and companies were forced to comply. Their goal was to cause the other side to spend too much money on the lawsuits. Anti gun folks are the same way. Politicians and bureaucrats never pay for their transgressions. they have endless tax dollars to defend their infringements that are paid for by people whose rights are being trampled. When the politicians and bureaucrats lose in court, they just go to the next plan and repeat the entire process.
