“Losing”?

I yield to no man in terms of my respect for Victor Davis Hanson, but I’m afraid the worthy professor is extremely late to this party.

Losing Confidence in the Pillars of Our Civilization
Millions of citizens long ago concluded that professional sports, academia, and entertainment were no longer disinterested institutions, but far Left and deliberately hostile to Middle America.
Yet American conservatives still adamantly supported the nation’s traditional investigatory, intelligence, and military agencies — especially when they came under budgetary or cultural attacks.
Not so much anymore.

He then enumerates said institutions:  the FBI, the military (senior officers), Big Tech / Woke journalism, federal health agencies, and the criminal justice system in general.

I will admit that the above are relative newcomers to the conservatives’ hall of shame, but as we all know, we’ve always loathed and distrusted the alphabet soups of the IRS, ATF and DHS, as well as Cabinet departments like the EPA, Energy, Interior and Education — to name but a few.

Wake up, VDH:  they’re all on the shit list.  They are very close to being — and in some cases very much already — not the “pillars of our civilization”, but active destroyers thereof.

And if you Readers want proof of this, ask yourself this question:  would you rather deal with your local law enforcement, or the FBI?  Your county tax office or the IRS?

  1. And the GOP signs off on all of it. Other than Ted Cruz, Rand Paul & Chip Roy, name a SINGLE Republicrat who’s ever even tried to draw a line in the sand.

  2. I had this realization yesterday when I saw a pro 2A bumper sticker, next to a back the blue, bumper sticker. Back the blue if you want to, but don’t be surprised or butt-hurt when the blue doesn’t back you.

    1. Preussenotto,
You’re right. Far too many in blue or green love their pay check, retirement benefits etc.

Just like any politician, I’ll support them when I can and oppose them when I must

  3. These things were NEVER the pillars of US civilization. Federal government, perhaps, but never the society as a whole.

They were parasitic substitutes infiltrated into our society almost 100 years ago that hollowed out the actual pillars of our society to form zombie replacements. US civilization has slowly been growing and distributing immunity to them, which is now reaching visible proportions, reaching for herd immunity.

This will not be tolerated by the power structures these entities do support. Expect active pushback.

  4. VDH, like so many other “right wing” commentators that you can cite, is more interested in maintaining the “loyal opposition” grift than in coming to the increasingly obvious conclusions that would be dangerous to his continued income. It’s a dead certainty that many of such people are controlled opposition, having “taken the ticket” for their position and fame in return for their treason. They are a pressure relief putting off any real action until it’s too late. Others are just useful idiots in the classic “they know not what they do” sense.
