  1. RE: “And Crowded House is probably (along with the BeeGees) Australia’s best contribution to music.”

This sentence encapsulates just how different our takes on music are.

  2. I run an MP3 playlist of Crowded House/Finn Bros music in my car when I drive Lyft. As I tell my passengers who ask, “Who’s that?” that CH are probably the biggest band in the world OUTSIDE of North America — where almost nobody has heard of them.

    1. They had a string of hits in the late 80s with Don’t Dream Itks Over, Something So Strong and Better Be Home Soon. I distinctly recall seeing them on MTV quite a bit as a teenager. Unlike a lot of 80s bands, both their music and their style has aged quite well. Even the old Split Enz stuff like I Got You still sounds fresh after over 40 years.

  3. “Australia’s best contribution to music.”

My favorite band in the ’80s was Men at Work. They’re largely forgotten now, due to lack of staying power. They were hugely popular for half a decade and then self-destructed. But I still listen to their music today.

  4. Dear Host,
    Thank you for the links.
I enjoyed this number for decades — with their official video — but the 30,000 sing-alongers is quite moving and pushed it back to the top for me.

Can an ‘earworm’ sometimes be a good thing?
