Pick Of The Litter

You have a chance to get three (and only three) cars from this collection as tax-paid gifts from the dead guy’s estate:

Read the descriptions and so on at the linked article, then make your choice and post in Comments.

Assume that you won’t immediately sell them and pocket the money.  Play the game.

My three choices (in order):

1 – 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Roadster
I could, and would use this car as my daily driver.  I’d even live with it in that green.

2 – 2011 Ferrari SA ApertaI don’t know why this one catches my fancy — as a rule, newer Ferrari models leave me cold — but I’ve never seen this model before, and I love its shape.

3 – 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4
My token hardtop — but I’ve always loved the 275.

  1. Strangely, I completely agree with your choices. Especially the MB 300S cabriolet.
My experience with one was a magnificent black example. Simple understated quality and class with engineering excellence.

  2. Difficult choices — But here’s my three

1 The 250 Short Wheel Base GT — Because there is no GTO in the collection, and this is as close as you can get.

2 The Gullwing – Because every serious collector should have one at least for a while untill they can trade it for something else.

3 the 56 Testa Rosa ( #3 of 17 ) because rarity and low numbers equal value and a TR is a quintessential Ferrari

…… and a close 4th would be the Monza SP1 – the best choice for likely future Value add and I don’t think there are any that were allowed into the US. So, it probably still can’t be imported. You would have to wait until the 25 year old car rule kicked in.

  3. Kim, I think you picked out the top three in that collection. I might have to swap out the 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS by Pininfarina for one your picks. which one to swap out is tough. Maybe swap it out with your green Mercedes pick

  4. It doesn’t matter. They’re all useless cars. I would pick three at random, sell them, and buy something useful to drive. Then I would take the surplus and buy a house.

  5. 1. SA Aperta
    2. 550 Maranello
    3. 360 Spyder

Really, the first two are the ones I’d want. Not as much interest in the rest.

  6. Since I’ve gotten too old for Track Days, I’d go for the Benz Cabriolet – for the more formal occasion; the SA Aperta when you just have to say “This is what Fuck You Money looks like”; but, #3 would be the Testarossa, as it is an absolutely wonderful driver and makes a statement all of its own.

  7. 1. 250GT
    2. 500TR
    3. 275GTB

There is nothing on the list I would use as a daily driver. Even if I am not selling them immediately I would not hold on to them forever. I’m sure they would be fun weekend cars, something to take to local car shows, but that’s about all they would be to me. Once I started selling them, I would put the funds toward something both faster and more luxurious

  8. The Nissan is obvious, the black bitch looks like a good vacuum cleaner and I’m sure Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty would agree, the rest…
