Tendencies

Here’s a fun little intellectual exercise:

Letting meat eaters drown is ethical because of the suffering they cause to animals, an Oxford University academic has controversially argued.

There’s nothing “controversial” about it.  His only supporters are going to be rabid vegans, and other so-called intellectuals, whereas the rest of us would drive him from the village, pelting him with stones and rotten fruit on his way out.  Apart from the chilling indifference, the application of such a judgmental credo in a life-or-death situation is not only awful but contrary to human nature.  (One can only imagine the “HHHAAATTTERRRR!” abuse that would come my way if I were to suggest that letting vegans drown under similar situations would at least lower the shrillness of society’s ambient background noise…)

That said, if I came upon said asshole burning to death in the street, I might actually pause for a moment before pissing on him to extinguish the flames, so maybe I’m not much better than he is.

By the way, here’s another little intellectual exercise for you.  Ignoring his nationality for a moment, do you think this bastard’s philosophy would be found more often in Democrat, or Republican voters?

Food for thought.

Not Really Qualified

I read this article with the usual reaction:

University freshers braved the elements in nothing but pairs of ‘budgie smugglers’ and skimpy swimwear during a wild night out to celebrate the start of their further education.

I know, I know:

If you insist.

And for those of you unfamiliar with the term “budgie smugglers”, here’s a pic of said clothing:

At least the police were there to keep an eye on things:

…and pints of body fluids errr beer flowed freely through the night.

One of the comments to said article was quite touching:

Sorry to break it to you, Bob, but only about 30% of students actually belong there.  The rest are just a waste of everybody’s time and money, regardless of who’s paying the fees.

All those who agree with me, raise your hands…

Laughing His Ass Off

Via Reader Brad_in_Il comes this timely epistle from John Kass:

Ours is a culture that fills kids with pharmaceutical drugs to manage their mood swings, a culture that offers them video games to live out their most violent, murderous fantasies. We push our political anxieties and pathologies down the throats of our children, telling young men for example, that masculinity is “toxic.” And if they happen to be white and male, they’re led to believe they’re they cause of almost everything that is wrong in the world.

Read this in conjunction with yesterday’s Twitter thread from a tormented young man, and you will be deafened by the sound of Satanic laughter.

Smoke And Fire

One of the worst decisions ever made — by a whole bunch of people, not just one — was to allow Chinese scientists to come to the United States and study in our peerless university research facilities.  No doubt this was done for all sorts of noble reasons, such  as spreading scientific discoveries around the world for the betterment of all, etc.

However:

Former GlaxoSmithKline Scientist Pleads Guilty to Stealing Trade Secrets for Chinese Pharma

and:

Chinese Man Pleads Guilty To Stealing Trade Secrets From St. Louis-Based Company To Benefit The Chinese Government

That’s just in last week’s news.  There have been many, many more such incidents, and they were all completely preventable.

What bothers me is that there has been no concerted effort to stop this theft / espionage, by deporting all Chinese-born scientists out of our universities and research institutions.

That inactivity can be laid at the feet of our government.
